Grafxshop was born, because I like many in late 1900 could not afford the high priced image editing software applications.
Perhaps, 'afford' is inappropriate, I honestly did not want spend the money. I had thought why not create one that offers similar features and yet stays free.
When GrafxShop was launched, some companies did bring down the prices, some came up with 'crippled' versions at affordable prices, some even decided to call it quits.
To maintain a freeware is not easy - there are folks constantly asking for newer features and updates and bug fixes.... the list is as exhaustive as a supported and paid for software. GrafxShop went through several periods of hibernation.
Next came the internet; like many others I tried honing on Java 2D/3D, C# and ActiveX - but the web had its own challenges. Besides, the browsers did what they were intended to - browsing; not lifting heavyweight image edit applications.
With the mobile - namely HTML5 supported browsers; I knew GrafxShop could offer similar graphical effects and entertainment like its desktop counterpart did. V1.0 is just the beginning.
